These were the thoughts I shared on January 23rd during Shyvonne's "In My Element" show at the Lower East Side Girls Club.
I think there is something to be said for believing in ourselves, until that belief becomes a shield of light and love that will carry us over all the grief, all the trauma of death, all the burdens, all the sadness that we seem to be possessed by. This world is burning. And our hearts too are ablaze, and together we can figure out new ways to burn all this shit down and start anew. And the only way we can do that is if we lean into ourselves and each other. By leaning into this—into this love, into this truth, into this purpose, into this promise, into this opportunity, we become the light and the love that we so desperately need and seek.
The wild part is the world will try to take this from you. The world will try to tell you that what you’ve seen and what you believe in and what you’re dreaming and what you’re imagining isn’t actually real. That you are hopeless; that this is helpless, that there is no way out. And I’m here to tell you that the way out, is in. By going into the work of digging out the lies and deceptions and misconceptions they have placed upon your hearty heart, we can plant new seeds of fertility. And these seeds will blossom and they will bloom into something we have never seen before.
This is what radical love looks like. This is what revolutionary love feels like. You are it. You’re standing in it. Breathe in, breathe out. Can you feel that? That is your nervous system. That is the body signaling to you that a change is on the precipice. You are that precedence. You are that north star. You are that lighthouse. You are that beacon.
And the wild part is, the trippy part is, we all have it. We all have that thing that is deep in us, beckoning us, calling us to action. It is calling us to do something, to say something, to be something other than what they are prescribing us to be. I don’t know who reading this is a mother or a father or a doctor or a lawyer or a teacher or a sanitation worker or a guidance counselor or is houseless or looking for love; who has lost a love or has lost a parent or lost a sibling or lost a child; who was trying to find themselves or trying to find somebody else. I’m here to tell you that you are the thing that you’ve been looking for. All this time, all this waiting through and sifting through and moving past and being stuck in and trying to pray our way out of it… it’s all here. And it’s all here because you’re here now, in this moment. And that is all that will ever matter.
All of this matter in your body, all the matter that is dying and being born again, is ushering in another state of being. What just happened two seconds ago is not what’s happening right now, and that is the gift. That is the blessing. And it is the blessing because, you are the blessing too.
