My New Publication "to all the poems i never wrote." Is Now LIVE
Pivoting "The Politics of Love" to a new home while focusing on the art and craft of poetry and sh*t talking on Substack
before writing essays, i wrote raps.
i wrote poetry. i tied loose ends
grapefruit rinds littered in the kitchen
made them compost, made them a bomb, made religion
took the fabric from the jaw, the mouth clenched
a unique forest in my mind, foraging through
saw the moth in the wild, showed it the tomb
in me, holding onto dear life, Bronx boys amuck
Smuckers jelly stains still stuck, taking words
stealing them from Nas from Jay from Jadakiss
from Nikki from Sonia from from from anyone
the language, silly puddy, hands drawn
the stories a painting, scattered ocean
a watered plant, maybe? a honeycomb unfurled
the layers could be a kiss or a clitoris, a petal
or a monsoon, any of which become windows
portals and chapters, elements of home
fastened to a bunk bed, no rules
first world i learned words: god, drive-by
learned art, rape, loss, ate the stories
each verse a planet, a verb star stirring
doing what my daddy did, my mama knew
only things to be, to bend the memory
be a wonder, break the moon glimmer tonight
be the poet.
